I’m Terri D. Sanders

my life is proof that reinvention isn’t a personality trait

THE SPEAKER & THE STORYTELLER

I’m a journalist by education, trained at Creighton University in Public Relations (PR)—and I’ve used PR as a through-line in nearly every chapter of my entrepreneurial journey. Whether I was building a brand, shaping a message, leading an organization, or serving a community, I was always doing the work of PR: listening, clarifying, positioning, and telling the truth in a way people can hear.

"The same maker's mindset followed me into every chapter."

I didn’t build my story in a straight line. I built it by learning, adapting, and pivoting when life required a new version of me. I began as a seamstress, working with my hands, my eye, and my discipline—creating something beautiful from raw material. That same maker’s mindset followed me into every chapter.

I became a Certified Balloon Artist (CBA), turning celebration into business through creativity and precision. I stepped into service and entrepreneurship as a personal chef, mastering planning, excellence, and the quiet power of delivering an experience people remember. And through it all, PR showed up—how I communicated value, earned trust, and built relationships that opened doors.
My path deepened into mission-centered storytelling when I served in public relations and later as Executive Director at Great Plains Black History Museum. That work sharpened my belief that history, community, and narrative can change what people believe is possible—especially when the story is told with care and strategy.
Along the way, I taught as an etiquette instructor, because confidence is a language—and women deserve to speak it fluently at every age. I managed places that mattered to real families as Site Manager at Fair Deal Village MarketPlace, and strengthened leadership and operations as Office Manager at Seventy Five North.

And then came legacy work.

I became the Publisher of Omaha Star Newspaper, carrying forward a historic voice while evolving what a community paper can be. That journey led me to found and lead Omaha Star Institute, where preservation, education, and community power meet. These roles aren’t just titles—they are evidence of endurance, evolution, and purpose.

trained me for the next:

Creativity

How to build from nothing.

Public Relations

How to shape a message, earn trust, and grow influence.

Service

How to stay relevant and respected.

Leadership

How to organize people, projects, and purpose.

Legacy

How to make your work outlive you.

This work is grounded in a set of principles that guide both how I live and how I lead. I believe in reinvention with integrity, pivoting boldly while remaining true to who you are and what you stand for. Service comes before spotlight, using influence to uplift others and create better outcomes for the community. I hold a deep respect for excellence and craft, because details matter, quality lasts, and reputation follows the work you do. My commitment to legacy and stewardship means preserving what matters, honoring history, and building something that outlives you. I value truthful storytelling, sharing stories with clarity and care because they hold the power to heal and empower.

Faith and inner strength guide my decisions, grounding me in resilience and spiritual confidence. I believe deeply in community connection, opening doors and helping people find the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. Through lifelong learning, I stay curious, teachable, and committed to continuously growing.

I believe in a world where women 50+ lead their next act with purpose, prosperity, visibility, and joy—without apology.

I champion economic empowerment, helping turn wisdom and experience into income, ownership, and stability at every age. Above all, I believe in dignity and respect, carrying yourself with grace and teaching confidence as a daily practice, not a performance.

Reinvention after fifty

Ushering Women into Act Five

I’m here to share what I’ve lived—especially with women over 50 who know there’s more in them, even if life has been loud, complicated, or heavy.

Reinvention after 50 isn’t about pretending you’re starting over. It’s about recognizing that you’ve been collecting skills, relationships, resilience, and wisdom for decades—and now it’s time to cash in on what you already carry.

If you’re standing at a crossroads, I want you to know this: you are not behind—you are being redirected. And with the right steps, you can pivot with power, clarity, and confidence—because I did, again and again.
